She wasnt in a cage she was in a coop she really enjoyed.

Sometimes it just happens and nobody knows why. A couple years ago, my best 2 yo. RIR rooster came out of his coop, crowed once and immediately dropped over dead. Never sent him in for autopsy because it was a holiday weekend. Someone I knew had a draft horse that did the same thing.

I'm really sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful bird.

As long as she had a good life before this happened you don't need to feel bad at all.

Sometimes, you just can't do anything. It doesn't make sense and it probably never will. Best you can do is get your shovel & bury your little friend if you aren't going to take her to a Vet. It's ok to feel sad, cry, say some prayers and some nice words over her as you bury her, too. And I like the idea of planting a bush or some flowers over her as a memory. If you can't afford a bush, you can maybe mark the spot and get a package of flower seeds to sprinkle.

The only thing that ever makes me feel better is hanging with the girls that I have left.

nope, its not hot outside, its just fairly warm. In the past she wasnt afraid of the dog at all, she could just easily fly out of the way, and she always had a big rooster watching over her to keep her safe. Well, that big rooster was around when this happened.

Since none of the rest of us were there, we can't really know what may have set her off - could be something spooked her, could be she had something happening inside - but you need to accept the fact that she is gone, and not freezing or burying her will bring her back. To send her off for a necropsy could be expensive. It's time to say good bye to your pet and find a nice place to bury her. Keeping a dead animal around for a few days is not a good idea. It will stink, attract flies and could cause illness. Plus, her pretty, shiny feathers will get dull and start falling out. Decomposing animals are pretty gross. Do you really want that to be your last memory of her? Better to bury her now before all that starts.

It may be that was a response to the cause of her demise.... sometimes an internal issue will cause a startle reflex in the last moments of life
