HELP!!!! URGENT!!!!!!

I don't value my chickens based on show value. I love them all, no matter what they look like. I don't have an incubator. $22.00 is a lot less than most incubators cost. I don't plan to hatch more chickens, so an incubator would be an expensive investment I wouldn't need. I won't buy chickens through Craigslist because I don't want to risk introducing disease to my flock. I haven't worked for a vet, so I don't know when to give up. I did research staggered hatching before my hen hatched the eggs, and that is when I learned that many hens do abandon the later viable eggs in a staggered hatch. I was glad I had done my research and knew what to expect. So I think $22.00 for a visit to the vet was a very good value, indeed! It may be an expensive chick to you, but it's a priceless little life saved to me at a very cheap-cheep cost! Plus I now have an outstanding, proven vet to turn to in times of crisis.

Praise God! Just got a call from the Exotic Pets Doctor. Our May Day Miracle, Little 'Merry Mae; is doing just great, and the vet says she is a Real Cutie! All we have seen of her is her beautiful bleu beak pecking out of the shell, so we can't wait to see her tomorrow. She's staying overnight at the vet's tonight, in the incubator there. Tomorrow night we'll place her back under her StepMama in hopes she will be accepted back into the flock with her siblings.

She is the miracle chick of our 4 year old Matriarch, 'Esther Mary,' a Barred Rock. Esther is getting older, and we were so afraid we might not get to see her offspring, though she is still laying very well. She also has the nicest disposition of all our chickens. The proud papa is our Lemon Blue rooster, 'Baby.' It will be so fun to see the combination of their genes, and little 'Merry Mae' just may lay colored eggs, since 'Baby' is believed to be Aracauna. It will be so fun to see.

We are so thrilled that wee Silver-Laced Sebright Bantam 'Merry Etta' was such a good step mom to all 4 eggs, keeping them viable. And that we have offspring from each of our full-sized gals now. Oh, my, are they ever cute! We weren't planning on more chicks, but thanks to Merry Etta's hiding her wee unfertilized 13 eggs and going broody, we had no choice. We didn't want to interfere with her hormonal happiness, so we just slipped her full-sized siblings' eggs under her, swapping theirs for hers. She didn't blink an eye and is seemingly enjoying being a StepMama very much.

Thanks to all of you for your great support, friendship, kindness, and advice during this stressful, nerve-wracking episode. You are all very much appreciated! Happy May Day! Happy Merry Month of May!

Awesome! You worked hard for this one for sure. I am really glad you will get to keep him/her to enjoy.

Thank you so much, Hickory Hollow! I sure didn't want to forfeit a single chick, considering how hard wee bantam Merry Etta worked sitting on them for 21 days! She seems so happy. I just moved her and the 3 other chicks to their new cage, protected from the cats. Got my first good look at Merry Mae's siblings. Oh, my! I couldn't be happier. One is super blue, the other is a beautiful dark reddish-gold, and there is a pale blonde. So distinctive and gorgeous. I can't wait to see Merry Mae tomorrow. Merry Etta seems to be an awesome Banty stepmom. She is taking very good care of them and has not rejected or pecked them, as far as I can see, and they seem very happy and healthy. I sure hope everyone takes to little Merry Mae. That would be a perfect happy ending!!
