I seriously wish you were close enough for me to come look! :D

From the looks of it now, I think I would open the existing hole, just a bit more to start, to be able to take a good look inside and see what’s going on for sure. About the size to reach a q-tip through, to rub some Vaseline or coconut oil on the membrane and look for blood vessels. Also to see if it has actually broken the membrane itself. And try to find the beak.
Ok. I will open the shell a little more (ONLY the shell, correct??) I went and bought all the proper supplies yesterday (vaseline, tweezers, iodine?.all I could find, etc.) So....... here goes. Will you be here in a few minutes?

Actual shrinkwrapping is actually more rare than you read about. People open eggs after they are sure they are dead, and see a collapsed air cell and think it shrinkwrapped, when actually it just collapses when the baby dies. It’s going to look that way a few hours after death, so it’s often mistaken. the way yours is moving and so active, I don’t think it’s shrinkwrapped.

Ok....final decision WVduckchick.....if this was you, you would crack open egg a little more?

Knowing ‘when’ is such a fine line. But helping remotely is tough too. I would open it enough just to peek inside. I wouldn’t remove very much of the shell covering the air cell just yet.

Ok. I opened a hole. I see the "tissue like skin" aka, membrane. So, back towards the big round end, I see a definate orange thing at the tip, from side to side.....but, I'm not sure it's the beak. I dont think the beak would be that long
