I am currently struggling with this in my Flock. I was told by two people on island that it was an eye worm. I have manually removed the puss/worm but her eye is still closed, though it’s now closed and flat. I have put deworming bastenero in their water once a month, tried vet rx both in the water and applied externally with a daily warm compress on the eye. It took almost a month for me to fully remove all the puss/worm (it’s still not clear to me what it was and the eye is still closed. I now wonder if her eye is permanently closed). She’s otherwise fine and running around and laying, but recently, another bird became still with an eye swelled shut as well. I isolated her, treated her with vet rx and also warm compressed and inspected her eye. I am still able to see her eye ball when it’s open, unlike the other bird whose eye swelled and was covered with the white worm/corzya I ended up removing. I’m really hoping for a recovery and working hard to prevent the spread among my four girls and rooster.
Removing the worm/puss was nasty business and hard to stomach but once you see it come out, you realize how important it was to get in there and help her out. I used a plastic first aid tweezer and kept lots of clean paper towels and warm water nearby.
