HELP!!!! WHAT DO I DO??? eggs are here, but it took a week... and

Hi all....... NOT VERY HAPPY WITH LAKE CUMBERLAND GAME BIRDS RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


I ordered A&M and Jumbo Brown hatching eggs about 3 weeks ago from Lake Cumberland..... These folks WILL NOT answer the phone no matter how many times you try. Well, I was afraid of my eggs getting caught up in the bad weather last week, but the tracking info from LC showed that they had not shipped the eggs yet. (it STILL shows that my order hasn't shipped, even though it arrived today after having bounced around for a week in various UPS trucks)

According to my tracking info, they shipped them on the 8th, then they got held up in Nashville on the 9th due to bad weather, then they made it to my local hub and then got held up again due to snow on the 11th. My box arrived today. Only 1 broken egg out of about 80.....

My question is this:

Do you think these eggs are still viable at all? How can I tell? Should I just put them in the bator and hope for the best???

I can't BELIEVE these people! We were having decent weather when I PLACED the order, and they wait until the middle of a freakin blizzard to shiup my eggs..... no kind of heat packs or anything.....


Can they be saved???

Their communication does lack a bit I agree. I would incubate them. The hatch success may be less but at least you may get something out of them. Good LUck!

guess it all depends on how fresh the eggs were at time of shipping...if they picked them the day they shipped them..then 4-5 days or so will not hurt them...and if they were cold, that's fine too, as long as they didn't freeze. I'd sit them on your counter for the next 24 hours to acclimate..and then set them...I think you'll be surprise at how hardy Coturnix eggs are and what will hatch.

I would think you could get a respectable hatch... 7 days old now, if they were 2 days old when shipped = 9 days. Your on the edge but still. I would rather have eggs get 40 deg than travel with a heat pack. You got to think about the mail truck, packed full of boxes. If your is in the middle it could stay there for a long time and not get too cold. I would shove'em in the bator and not expect too much. I'll bet 35% hatch just cuz. Does suk they gave ya so much heads up and answer calls so well... Bill

Thanks y'all, I guess I'm just a little miffed. I am self employed and if I ran my business that way I would be out of work VERY soon!

I knew they were a little hard to get ahold of, I was just in shock today when this box showed up on my front porch. I had been checking their website each day to see if they had shipped them yet. I thought that they had waited knowing that a blizzard was coming...... Guess not. I hope I haven't wasted my money.

I've only mail-ordered eggs from two sources, JJMR and Wadley Quail Farm............and had super quick delivery from both. But every time I hear of a customer that has placed an order with Cumberland, they're outraged at the delivery and customer service. You'd think with their "attractive" advertising, they'd strive to "lead by example". But I see some very dissatisfied customers constantly, and that ain't good. Very sad that some businesses turn out to be "artificial" after they lure excited customers in with hyped-up advertising.........really sad!

I know how you feel, I got some eggs off ebay and they arrived in 2 days. Well the eggs floated like 3 week olds. I will never buy from that seller again. I have had a ton of trouble with the PO lately. First they returned my package and said it was $4.00 short of the proper postage. Well how does a flat rate box paid for through the automated machine come out $4.00 short? Oh, and it took 5 days to ship my last sell.

Lake Cumberland Is And Always Has Been Very Lacking In The Communications Dept. The Shipping Isnt Their Fault Tho, That Lies Directly On The Carrier's Shoulders.

Set Them... Lcgbf Does Not Hold Eggs... If They Shipped On The 8th The Eggs Were Laid That Day Or On The 7th. They Are Still Viable If The Carrier Hasnt Frozen Or Scrambled Them.

My second attempt at hatching coturnix eggs came from another BYC'er who also lives here in KY. Driving time is about 3 hours from me to him, though it took the P.O. a full week (7 days) to get the eggs to me. It was Dec. 27th, I believe, when the eggs arrived. 4 of 25 eggs were broken upon arrival, 18 happy, healthy chicks hatched from the remaining 21 eggs.
