Help! What is wrong with my duckling's feet?

So glad to hear this. You know, even if you can rescue some of them, anything will help. Maybe he just got overwhelmed with too many. I try to give the benefit of the doubt. But geesh! A vet. How did you find them to begin with? Is he trying to sell them all?

I believe I'd take some friends along and distract him with them asking questions then maybe you can get lots of pics. These ducklings lives depend on someone helping them. I know your trying. Did you go on your province forum and ask for help to adopt?

There does not seem to be anyone on the forum from my area, probably due to the fact that rarely does anyone know english here. It is 98% french canadian. But that is not a problem. Yesterday I was unable to get pictures because he was not home and his wife came out but she did not allow us to go anywhere. She was polite but asked for us to come back today. I did however find 2 other people that are willing to take in some of these babies. They both have unused pens that will be ideal for the babies.

We also raised 100$ to be able to get some babies today. No matter how many we get at least we are certain to save some of them.

So now I have chores to do but will be going back to that farm in about 1 hour.
Will give you all an update.

I met this guy last year at a animal market. We had stopped just to see the animals and I saw 2 baby geese and bought them right away.
That is how I re-started my hobby and also how I met him. He had given me instructions to get to his place where I could purchase ducks
and other geese. I have been buying from him but it is the first time I actually saw how the ducks are kept. Usually we would just stand outside
while he went into one of his buildings.

Thanks for the update! Tell that farmer/vet that since you're a repeat customer, he should give you all the ducklings since he obviously can't/won't care for them properly.

Hope it all works out well when you go later!

X2!! you'll take them off his hands for 100.00. Or you'll turn him in. I know you can't say that but it looks good here. Or better yet you know someone with a base ball bat.

Did you look here for your area? https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/144/canadians-check-in-here

Oh my goodness! Seriously... Those poor ducklings!!! This guy is a vet? I hope he will just give you all of them. How could he not feel bad about the way he is keeping those babies? Ugh!!! Maybe while you are asking him about their feet, tell him how you had to treat the ducklings feet that you bought from him. I would even ask him HOW they got like that! (I'm sure as a vet he knows, but maybe it will stir some compassion in him for his animals!) Heartbreaking to say the least. I'm glad you are giving those babies a good life especially after what they have been through in their short lives already!

THE BABIES HAVE ALL BEEN SAVED!

We just got back.

As you can all see, most of these ducklings have no down on their backs.
That floor is pure excrement! Once again they had no water although they did
have some kind of feed. Scratch feed.

All their feet have burn spots.

He was ready to go to sell 25 ducklings that were in cages in his truck along with
all kinds of other fowls. Since they were being sold we did not bother with the ducklings
but every single one you see here, has been bought for 10$ each. Very high price
for such poor quality babies but well worth it to save them.

One lady took 20 and the other lady got 30 and I took 8 more.

Now we will be treating their feet and allowing them to grow in their downy backs
before letting them outside.

I am so happy for all the help I got to save these poor ducklings!

Thank you everyone for your encouragement.

Poor babies, but so happy to hear you were able to get them.. YAY!! I can see why they have no down you CANNOT have chickens or other birds in with ducklings they will literally eat them alive. Especially if they are stressed anyway from lack of care, Wonderful news that you resecued them!!! Please keep us updated on how they are doing and I think your going to find they will be beautiful once they recover and are getting TLC.

Big hugs to all 3 of you!!
I hope the ASPCA of another organization will come out and check the other birds though to make sure he is caring for them properly.
