I've had issues in the past with owls too.

This one went through some crappy netting I had over a couple of pens which I have since replaced. It tried to go the good netting and got caught in the netting. We got it into a cage and a wildlife rescue came and got it. That was the only time an owl had ever tried or went through the netting. I have previously posted these pictures.

Interesting did not get further away with with the bird. Must been to heavy for it? Left it there to come back and get it?

It left it to come back later. Owl's favorite part of a chicken is the brain (that's why her skull was crushed), so they often eat that first and save the rest for later. The owl actually came back as I was taking care of the body, and only left once the body was gone.
