Help Whats Wrong With My Chicks?? *PICS*

Thanks everyone for all of your help, I will stop giving them grit and follow the other suggestions as well. Will update in a few days on how they are doing. Since it is normal for them to store the food in the crop and for it to expand that much Im sure they will be fine. Thanks Again

So this is normal? Her's seems to stay like this but it isn't getting any bigger. I took the food away tonight *chick starter* and will see how it looks in the morning. They don't get any grass. Is she just a pig?

These were the best pics I could get...wouldn't be still for me.

She looks like my little piggy rir's. Make sure the crop is down in the morning. I wouldn't do grit either unless you are giving treats. You should be able to feel it too, it shouldn't be rock hard. Don't press it too hard.

GaNewChick:

is she eating, drinking, gaining weight, acting alert?
describe the droppings..color and consistency.

feel for any lump or grainy feeling..
sometimes they eat the bedding..not a good thing.

sshannon...just keep an eye on the crop and see if it goes down after not eating for a while.
it's either a full crop that will hopefully go down..
another thing it could be is an injured air sac..
but most likely..full crop..
no more grit. stick with just chick feed.

This one is rock hard. I gave her a little bit of olive oil and massaged it, and also added some to the water. Along with taking the food up. What if it isn't down in the morning...it was hard last night to, but isn't increasing in size.

She seems to be eating ok and acting ok. Poop is not runny but not solid either. Color of poop is *shiny medium brown* for lack of a better way to describe. I think she has eaten some of the shavings. This was poop after the olive oil too.

You might consider isolating the chick with that is most `distended' in a clean area by itself for the night (just provide water source).

In the morning check the quantity/quality of droppings and the degree of `swelling'/hardness of crop as compared to tonight. If it seems worse. droppings going green/watery post further.

Good luck!

Thanks...I moved her into a separate crate with just water. I nosed her up to the others so maybe she'll calm down. She ain't happy being in there by herself.

We'll see how she is in the morning.

well...if it starts cheeping like crazy..maybe a companion will help her..
they don't like being by themselves..stresses them out.
