Hi everyone.
First time chicken owner and first winter coming up!
I have included a horrible grainy picture of my current set up. I am wanting to prepare for winter. Were simple people and don’t need all the bells and whistles. I just want my chickens to be safe and dry.
Any help or ideas on what I should do? Is this space okay for them?

Is that very little building the Coop? I think it is big enough for three chickens. Is there a roost? It doesn't look tall enough to have a roost.

Yes. It’s the coop. There are two roosting bars in there. However, they don’t use it every night.
I’ve been trying to get my husband to build me a taller one but he says this one is fine for now. So idk..

You can tell my climate and if I am in the northern or southern hemisphere. AntiqueB is from New Jersey, not Southern California. Please go to your signature and put in your location.

How cold does it get? Do you have available electricity in the coop? Are winds strong during winter?
I live in Indiana so the weather is pretty unpredictable. It can get to single digits. Last winter the winds temps were rough. I think we had a few days of -20 wind chill.
I don’t have electricity out there but I was going to run a line from the garage to heat their water.
My husband and I did wrap the run yesterday too.

Just be sure the tops of the run have some ventilation, as well as the coop. I have a small prefab for chicks, and I found some round vents with louvers on them. That keeps the wind from blowing on the chickens, since I can direct it. Keeps the rain out, too!

I wrap my run with clear tarps held on by bungee cords. They go 4' up the sides, and above that is open. I have a clear tarp covering the roof, too.

My chickens don't live with me, so the pop door is always open. There is an internal windbreak as well, which is just an old shower curtain attached to some 2x4s.

As long as the wind isn't on them, and they have liquid water, they should be fine. What breeds are they?
