Yesterday morning, I was cleaning up a PB Egyptian Fayoumi, when she wriggled out of my hands, and fell behind the brooder. She acted okay, maybe a little scared, and I put her back into the brooder. Today, I noticed one Egyptian that is just standing still for long periods of time, with her eyes closed. I think it's the same chick, and I felt her, but nothing weird was happening. Any ideas on what could be wrong? She's at the bottom of the peck order, I think, since she's a smaller one.

You probably rattled her. Dropping a bird from height does the same damage as getting knocked on the head would do to a human. Give her a day or two to recover and hopefully she will be OK. In the meantime, don't panic and don't beat yourself up over it. Accidents happen.

Unfortunately, there was nothing you were going to be able to do from the moment the accident occurred. If she has a major head injury or liver laceration (the two likeliest scenarios in my mind), there is nothing to do to save her. You just need to keep her as comfortable as possible until she passes or recovers. You are doing that. She has a friend in with her now, only time will tell if she is going to make it or not.

I am sorry. Sometimes these things work out, but sometimes they do not. You cannot beat yourself up over this, though. These things happen. You cannot blame yourself too harshly for a moment of inattention, a brief slip of the hand...
