Help with duck who was attacked

Hope so, thanks for the advise and comfort, this is just my 2nd year of keeping ducks and chickens. It is truly a labor of love, it never occurred to me that I'd be so protective of them. And am almost ashamed to feel that if that dog comes back ill surely have to do smoothing to it, if not it will kill my whole flock. Is that wrong to feel that way, or is this just part of being a farmer?

How is your duck doing today?

Ahhhh, I feel for you. Puncture wounds are tough, you never know. She may well have a broken neck, if she is eating and drinking that is a good sign, and if it's coming out the other end...all the better. Can remember growing up and seeing ducks like this in the park pond, and they seemed to be doing alright, and living in the wild with just a little human intervention (feed in winter, etc.) so think it is a common thing. They can be rooting for something under a log or whatever and get stuck and fracture something trying to free themselves. Any critter that is "different" from the others faces challenges, just like our kids do. Sometimes the flock will ostracize them just for that reason, but she sounds like she's getting along okay. If you don't want to isolate her, just let nature take its course, and just keep an eye on her. You certainly can't splint it or cast it or anything like that. If she seems to be suffering, and it makes you feel better, bring her in and nurse her, but sounds like she has things under control. Best of luck, and will be looking for updates. And let that neighbor know to keep that dog on his own property. He's got the taste now and will most likely be back for more.

I certainly have been surprised at how protective I feel about my ducks. So join the crowd!

I agree with what's been written, we'll have to wait and see about the neck, and in the meantime, lukewarm baths deep enough to float in, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar in water (I would put a tablespoon per quart) for tonic and electrolytes, extra vitamins, and watch, watch, watch.

I've got another issue now, a month ago I purchased 6 new ducks to add to my flock, two of them are pekains. One of the pekain baby's has bowed legs though, I've read up some on the incubation of ducks and remember reading about this happening sometime. My question is will the baby be?
