I am new here but I have been reading a lot trying to get some information about maintaining humidity in a Janoel 12 incubator. I have one duck egg that I put in yesterday. The temp was holding at 99 and the humidity was 47. Overnight the humidity went down to 39 so I added a small amount of water. That brought it up to 52. I have no idea how to keep the humidity constant. Fact be known, I really have no idea what I'm doing at all. LOL
If anyone can offer me some tips I would be most grateful.

I'm not familiar with that incubator and could not find a users manual online. It seems there is a reservoir on the bottom to add water but I'm not sure what it looks like.

In that type of incubator the humidity is controlled by surface area of the water. Water depth does not matter unless that changes the surface area. In my Hovabator I have five different reservoirs so I control humidity by which reservoirs have water in them. Another way to increase humidity is to put a sponge or towel in there to wick water to get it wet so you add surface area. To decrease humidity you can maybe put foil over part of the reservoir to decrease surface area. If you spill water and get some surfaces wet the humidity will spike until that surface dries.

I find that the temperature and humidity of the air going into the incubator can have a big effect on the humidity inside. I've seen a 20% difference with the same reservoir filled in winter versus spring. It's usually not that dramatic on a day to day basis but seasons can sure make a difference.
