Help with possible bumblefoot without scab

We have a leghorn hen that we noticed 2 days ago was limping and couldn’t stand on her leg. When we first examined the leg we saw bruising and thought she had sprained it, however, the foot seems to be getting more enflamed and larger, especially on the bottom pad and toes.

We’re not sure if it’s bumblefoot or just a sprain, as there’s no scabs on it, however, it’s a lot darker in color than the other foot (please see photos attached). If someone could please help me identify the problem and a solution for it, it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

1st 2 photos are the bad foot and the 3rd is the good foot.

Sorry no one has replied to this yet. I am not experienced in bumble foot. Hoping to boost this post for you. Is it possible she jumped from the perch and injured her foot? Like a bruise maybe? I hate when my hens jump off things in the yard, I’m afraid they will bruise their feet.

Ah okay, well when we first noticed it, it looked like bruising but that quickly went away and it’s just turned into swelling now.

This is a really a blind shot, I know very little about chicken injuries, but maybe there is a hairline fracture somewhere or a sprain as you said. Does she use it anymore than before?

No, she attempts to use it but seems to be completely incapable of it and usually just stands there with one foot if she isn’t sitting, like a flamingo.

Aw poor girl. I think there are human medicines you can give for pain and swelling, although you’d have to do a search on here for advice on the doses and kinds. I have read threats on here where chickens heal from sprains and breaks perfectly fine given time and extra precautions to keep them from chicken shenanigans on their injured legs, so that’s a plus if it is a sprain or similar injury.

Ah, okay, thank you. I’m still trying to determine whether this is bumblefoot or a sprain/fracture like you had said.

That looks and sounds a lot like what my hen has. Her foot was slightly swollen two months ago and she wouldn't put any weight on it. Over the next couple weeks her foot really ballooned and got red, but there was no scab. I cut into it and expressed a little pus (watery, cheesy) but the majority stayed put. What helps the most I've noticed are the Epsom salt soaks (I do about 30min at a time). After 3 days the infection really came to a head (still no scab though!) I cut into it today and got a big plug out, but there's still infection in there. Epsom salts should help whether it's an infection or a sprain. I'd start there and see what develops in the next several days.
