I just ordered 25 light brahma chicks. Since they are such a large chicken should I feed them different to ward of leg issues? Also, when they are grow what should they be fed?

Thanks,

Kail

Brahmas are a heavy breed but they are not considered a meat bird, and they actually grow slowly as compared to a meat bird.
Normal chick starter works just fine.
If you were raising cornish, I might get a supplement as they grow profusely fats, almost able to see the growth with the naked eye !!!!
Brahmas are great birds, wonderful, sturdy and will be the first to leave the hen house in the morning, and the last ones in at evening.
Cold does not bother them at all.
They are heavy at maturity, but do not lay an huge egg despite their bigger size as alot of people think.
I raised 25 last spring, and you will love them.
any problems, PM me.
I am not a vet, but have raised several successful batches of brahmas.

I agree, raise your Brahma's like any other egg layer. They are great ladies and everything Chickielady said is true. I love them and mine lay on the small end of large eggs, but I would never have a flock without them.

Thanks. I have not had chickens in years and I'm really looking forward to getting these Light Brahmas! Can't wait for them to arrive.

Brahma's are slow growing so you shouldn't have leg problems.
If you are getting them from a hatchery they wont get much bigger than any other breed..

Most hatchery Brahmas are not as big as they should be.
Standard Call for --

Cock - 12 pounds
Cockerel - 10 pounds
Hen - 9 pounds
Pullet - 8 pounds

A good Exhibition/ Show Quality Brahma will tower over a Hatchery Brahma.

I understand that people do keep chickens as pets, but you asked me a question in your last post....
