Help with sexing & type

I've only had mine 2 weeks now Kev, they are 4 years or so old, and they will eat out of my hand, they never were jumpy like all the other new arrivals, the cameos I've had for a while now, and they still go to the far end of the pen everytime I feed them, but not those opals! they are always right there at your feet

Kev I think its the individual bird... or more like, some lines are just more friendly than others. I raise all my birds the same way, yet some just become friendlier than others.... like my 4 yr old BS male. I named him Puppy, because he fllows me around like one

I have a question about an opal chick of mine... I will post it in a new thread.

Kat, I agree.. see same thing in my birds, there are one here n' there that just are plain puppies no matter what color or species(have a java hen that will come up to anybody). Want to see if Opal in general have a higher tendency to be tame/fearless compared to the usual peafowl.. would like to figure out if it's a line vs color/variety thing..

Boggy, that's what I'm talking about. Sweet isn't it? Your others will eventually come around too.. just takes time. I had new birds so wild they would beat against the roof as soon as they saw me at all but they all eventually calmed down or even became used to me. Some take months to come around though.

Yep Kev,
I am noticing day by day they are all getting more easy going, even the javas and imperators which are flighty to start with.
Have 2 older java hens I have had for a few months now, and finally they are getting to where they just walk to the other side as oposed to running or fling . But the opals were puppies right from the get go!
Love 'em

Hello .... just thought it was interesting to see different inputs on peachicks.... I havent seen anybody talk about sexing them the old fashioned way which I believe is so easy and accurate.... you pick up the chick carefully by the wings close to the back not by the tips of the wings because that would injure them, it;s hard to explain, you are holding the bird securely by the wings close to the inside of wing near body not the tip of the wing.... anyhow when u do this they will either hang there legs straight down in a stretch position or they will crouch them up close to the body if it hangs legs its male the other would b female of course this also works with chickens
