Help with vents for coop

My coops has three sides, hubby used existing building to attach to. 11 Vents are high on walls above roost to let out ammonia and stale air. Our nights are still a little chilly, and my chicks are 6-7 weeks old. so i shut some of the vents and close windows for them to keep the heat they still need. The windows alone was not working, I was smelling the coop within a day, as soon as I put in the first vent the smell left.

@Bcolpetzer -Those vents with the slots vertical work great with the overhang you have ... :)

If you didn't have the larger overhang, in order to keep rain out you would need a different style no matter what a store salesperson says!

I agree, When I was trying to figure out my vents for the space I had to work with and budget. I saw allot of just drilling holes. And for many that may work. We get allot of wind and I was concerned about being able to have the option of closing or at least partially closing if need be and keeping out unwanted birds from the coop. And unwanted hornets. I popped off the front before installing and added screen also for the small flying pest.

My deep and open soffits are covered with HC for year round protected ventilation.
Keeps the birds out too, they they try..haha!
I do have a damper up over the roost in winter tho as it's very close to the eaves.

Well so far here’s what my hubby has got done. I told him up maybe 2’ on the blackjack 57, what can I say he’s an overachiever! Obviously we won’t keep the windows open this much and we need to figure out a way to put some type of overhang so rain won’t get into the widows. Any suggestions on layout for the inside? roosts? I’m thinking I want the nest boxes on one of the side walls and maybe putting the pop door on the front to the right of the big door. Here are the nest boxes that were given to us, my husband said he thinks he might cut them down so we don’t have so many.
