Help with vents for coop

Hard to see, but under the edge of the roof is also open.

Actually, no need to add windows because a coop is only a place to sleep and to lay eggs.
Just a door during day time to add some light, so the chickens can find the nesting boxes which should be in a dark place anyway.
When it comes to ventilation, you MUST have one (1) sqft of venting area per chicken, if you use passive ventilation, The vent openings should not create a drafty environment for the chickens when they sleep, so put them way up, near the top of the roof, way above the heads of the chickens when they roost.
Or, you could use active ventilation and add a fan that runs 24.7 into a smaller hole.

Windows are a easy way to provide light without having to prop open the door and if they can be opened then they also provide extra ventilation that you can control (i.e. closing up if a bad storm comes). I've seen a number of folks ask for advice on getting their chickens to use the coop and when I ask if there's windows, the usual answer is "No."

Also I disagree with the whole "nest boxes need to be dark" thing - my coop is pretty well lit and the hens have no issues with using their nest boxes. I even cut multiple windows into my old nest box (a small dog house) and the hens used it reliably. Maybe in certain situations if chickens do NOT want to use the nest box, adding some curtains for privacy might help, but I don't think it's a requirement.

Ditto Dat^^^

They don't need 'privacy' either....they need to feel 'safe'.
Why an enclosed(5 sides) nest is usually best.

For future readers/builders ... this shows the benefits of LARGE overhangs ... another 16" of roof in all directions would allow the gable's to have no siding, and just hardware cloth ... same with the top 6" of the walls ...

Besides it add shade to the coop walls ...

To the OP ... at this points I'd suggest a roof vent of some type, even one of those whirly gig types that pull air out when the wind blows ...

I built an 8x8 'open air coop' and it's awesome. I live in NH so winters can get pretty cold but the chickens have survived quite well over 2 winters now. The front has a huge window that I hang a heavy burlap curtain over the lower 2/3 to keep out the winds during the winter. I have 2 side windows which are open during warmer months and I put glass in when it gets cold. Here's a photo of my coop when I got the structure livable. I still need to side it and do a few other finish details. The nest boxes hang off the opposite side from the door. 7' in the front 5.5' in the back. The front faces south. My peeps love their little house.
