HELP!! Wrong end pip?!?! (Oh No! Complications!!!)

I went ahead and took the broke egg out, and set it on a prewarmed heating pad with a moist warm towel. I picked the egg shell away very gently from the membrane and opened enough air for her nostril. Now she is breathing steady, but not really moving much. She will open her beak now and again, but for the most part is just sitting and resting.

They do that. They'll wiggle a bit and then they'll snooze a bit. I like to position them so I can see their beaks. And as long as the beak is moving I know they're o.k.

It's getting there. Slowly. I was very happy to see the 3rd malpositioned one started zipping, so I'm pretty sure she won't need help from me. She's going crazy in the egg. She wants OUT! When things go well I really love hatching...

How is your baby coming along?? Has she finally gotten out? 55 hours is a long time!!

Mine is still the same, breathing and moving its beak, but no chirping.

I removed enough of the shell before I went to bed so it could get out if it wanted to, but left the membrane. Judging by how wet it still was when I got up now it must've hatched not long before I checked. And that wasn't the only surprise in store for me. When I got up and checked on it I found an incubator full of ducklings! Apart from that one another 4 hatched overnight. So one egg left. It pipped yesterday and is happily chirping and whistling in there. So it should put in an appearance sometime today, I think.

Good luck with your little chick! Hopefully it'll get a surprise burst of energy and finish popping on it's own. I know for the only I had to help, I tried to leave as much alone as I could, and only removed the dried out membrane and some shell to ensure that the membrane underneath was still healthy and moist, then back it went on a wet paper towel. It hatched itself earlier this evening, but there is a little bit of yolk still unabsorbed.I'm hoping that when I get off work in the morning that it will look alright, and be ready for the brooder.

Well, I started to suspect something was wrong with 2 eggs, and sure enough, i candled and they were dead. Out of 20, so far 1 actual hatch, 1 still struggling.

She is wiggling more now, chirping on occasion and wiggling her foot around. She might make it

Ive been up a few times over the night to check on her.

The one that hatch is crying alot and does not seem to want to walk. Im a bit worried. from the minute it hatched it wandered all over the incubator rolling eggs around and getting stuck in corners. i finally took her out and wamred her on a heating pad until she was dry. Now she is peeping in her brooder with about 5 wash cloths. She is so pretty! Very active though, she climbs all over the wash cloths, but i ahve yet to see her actually stand for more that a few seconds. I hope its not a bad sign.

Has she eaten or drank anything yet? My look like they have seizures on occasion, and decide to play dead with their legs sticking out behind them as they sleep (that is until another chick decides that toes look yummy...)

Is that baby still in there? I thought she'd have hatched by now. Maybe you should check and see if she needs a little help. I removed enough of the shell for my duckling last night so it can wiggle out by itself when it's ready. And it did!

They don't walk around much or stand very long on the first day. And like the above poster said they like to worry us! I found a chick once laying flat on it's back and I thought it was dead, so I picked it up to remove it from the brooder. I don't know who got the biggest fright, me or the chick. It was sleeping!

I worked some egg off last night down to her belly, there was still yolk, so I wrapped her up in a thick paper towel with her nose exposed for breathing. She is wiggling more today and even lets out a peep. I think the new hatching egg is encouraging her to move more. She seems much stronger today than yesterday.

Chick #1 has eaten a few crumbs and some water from my finger, but very little else. I heard they would be fine for a couple of days without food or water. Im keeping an eye on her. She is still trying to climb the washcloths like a moutain climber so im pretty sure she will be OK for now. She is very tiny, so im being extra watchful. I know these first few days are critical.

I forgot to mention, the 2 eggs that were bad are the "broken" eggs full siblings. I think the mother hen has always had a few problems so Im really not suprised that the mortality rat has been 2/3. I wont be breeding her again. I had hoped because she is such a friendly hen, that her chicks would be friendly too, but there are other factors involved I guess under the skin.
