Help!

I have 1 egg making peeping, tapping and crackling noises for over 13 hours now.. is this a normal length of time before an external pip shows? I'm getting worried.. thanks...I'm new here.. any advice would be greatly appreciated. . )

Hi I hatch some Pekin Bantams about two years ago, when they started piping one of them didn't fully come out of the egg until about a day later! It is normal for it to take a long time, just make sure the chick has anough humidity to hatch or the membrane will stick to the chick and it can die as this happened to one of my Prkin chicks!

Ty! I'm just worried because I can hear it and feel it moving but it's not piping yet after 13 hours..

Hi, don't worry this is normal! Chicks have timetables just like us some will hatch late and sometimes chicks will hatch early! If you can hear the chick chirping that's really good, I know this sound crazy but try to be like a mother hen chirp back to the chick so it feels safe! Also what incubator do you have as a incubator (what brand and model) and how many eggs do you have in the incubator of which breed? If your incubator temp is a bit low the chick might hatch a little late but if it is high it will hatch a day before! Your incubator temp should be at 37.5 *c can you tell me what it is? And if it is possible could you tell me what your humidity is at as this will help me figure out the problem! :/

Your not going to believe this but I have no incubator..they were under the hen for a while and the batch started smelling so i brought a few in..and discarded the stinkies.. this is the first batch of eggs as these are fairly young black Japanese (approx age 7/8 months). I have these 2 eggs in a plastic container with a heat lamp hanging about 18 inches over top.. i also keep a wet cloth in the container with them..this all happened so fast.. i wasn't expecting some of the eggs to go bad while the hen was on them..:*

I have also sprinkled some drops of warm water on them several times a day.. i just hope they make it.. the one is really active and has been under the light for 4 days now. He just started peeping last night..

Okay it sounds like your hen went broody then how long have they been under heat if one of the chicks has started to make a hole in the egg that is really good if you have got a spear thermometer put it under the lamp next to the egg but do not put it on top of the egg put it next to the egg and check if the temperature is at 37.5°C if it is higher the tent is higher the chick will struggle to hatch and may die! If it is possible could you send a picture so that I could have a look if your hen is still broody you might want to consider putting the eggs back under her as she is very experienced and will know what to do!

She's hatched 3 chicks already in the last week or so but for some reason they died after hatching while in the nest with her.. Temps here are in the 30s outside in the coop so thats another reason I brought these 2 eggs in. They were the only 2 left that didn't smell funny.. they have been in my house under the lamp for approx 4 to 5 days now.. both were floated proving they are alive.. there are no external pips yet ..but one is tapping and chirping.... not sure how to send a pic.. sorry..
