*HELP*

It had just come out of the goat
Then you should check with your Dr to see if your tetanus shot is up to date. The needle isn't sterile, and you've been exposed to some bacteria (we are always exposed to bacteria). Again - this isn't a panic situation. It's a low risk. but tetanus is serious on those rare occasions that it happens. Site infection is probably more likely (still a small risk) and you should watch for signs of infection: redness, swelling, warm to touch etc.

How old are you? When did you get your last tetanus (DPT) shot? Your parents would know. I once took care of a woman in a hospital who contracted tetanus or lockjaw from stepping on a nail, and she died a rather painful death. Most adults do not realize they need to have a tetanus booster every 10 years. Many have a puncture wound accidentally, and it is usally suggested to get a booster shot. Here is some reading:

Ok

Tetanus is not from rust it lives in the Dirt. Was the needle sterile? Was the skin sterile? Or at least was the skin cleanish? How far did the needle go in? Tetanus thrives in environment that has no oxygen. So if it was just a tiny shallow poke then probably fine. But if it was a big ol needle and it went in all the way then yeah go get a tetanus shot.

Nah. It had just come out of the goat, and only went in about a fourth of a centimeter. Shall I see a doctor?

Clean it real well and slap a band-aid on it. In all honesty it's probably fine. However, if you are working with animals and around dirt then a Tdap booster is really important. There is no cure for tetanus. If you are lucky they stick you in a medical coma and paralyze your muscles (this includes your heart and lungs) until the toxin works it's way out of your system (about 3 months). If you are unlucky you just die.

This was last night, and I just squeezed a bunch of blood out (in case dirt or medicine from the vaccine had got in there) and put a bandaid on. Is that ok?
