HELP

I have a broody hen. I placed duck and chicken eggs under her not knowing that chicken eggs don’t take as long as duck eggs. Today is day #3 and I wanna know what I should do. The duck eggs will take like a whole extra week. I know I should have looked it up before, but I didn’t. Please help!

Do you have an incubator? A week difference May not end well.....

I personally would remove the duck eggs and try again next time.

How many did you put of each, what kind of hen, how old?

I don't know too much about incubating duck eggs, but I have had a hen sit on eggs for longer than 21 days if no eggs hatch. You might be able to remove the chicken chicks when they hatch and she might keep sitting on the duck eggs until the ducklings hatch. You could also have an incubator ready and move the eggs now or when she stops being broody. If you don't have an incubator, it is pretty easy to make one with a styrofoam cooler, a light bulb with a dimmer switch (to regulate temp), thermometer/hygrometer, and a bowl of water with a sponge for humidity. I have made a few in a pinch and actually get pretty good results (50-75% hatch rate). You could let the hen sit on the eggs for a while longer to let you set up the incubator and get the temp regular. Only thing is that you have to turn the eggs manually 3 times a day.

My hen is a blue Cochin. She is almost 2 years. There are 3 chicken eggs and 3 duck eggs.

This is my homemade incubator now with two 15 watt incandescent bulbs for the heat. I also put in a fan to circulate the heat. It blows across the bulbs and not on the eggs.

This was the original with a single light bulb and a dimmer switch.

This is the same incubator after I modified it after the bulb in the original burnt out one night during incubation. The modification was adding a light bulb in case one should burn out and adding a wafer thermostat and a fan.
