i have three boy ducks and two females. the girls are kept separate since they are babies and too small to be with the big ducks. anyways, one of the boys is being attacked by the other two. do i have to separate him? i already had to rehome one drake and i don’t know anyone else who wants one. getting more females is not an option as a i live in a neighborhood and even having five ducks is going over my limit. what can i do?

@thumper650 has an all drake flock let him tell you how he keeps his. I hope your not intending to place your two young female in with your drakes? The best ratio for drakes to ducks is 1 drake to 3 and up females. You maybe able to get by with 1 drake to 2 females if you keep your most laid back drake.

I kept a 5-drake flock for a year and found they needed much more supervision than a flock of females, separating ones who don't get along when they start acting up. It kind of worked but but I always had be ready to separate as needed. I had some that hated each other only sometimes and some that were never able to be put back together once they began fighting. Not sure how everyone else handles them but that was my experience.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but "cull" simply means remove from the flock, not necessarily kill.

Anyway, @Duck mommy 2019 I think you've got good advice form everyone so far. I separate my drakes with short fences, about 2 feet tall. I make them out of wood and chicken wire. make sure there's no sharp stuff sticking out, because they will try to get through it. I also use those octagonal dog playpens sometimes.

Maybe pen up 2 of the boys, and put one with the girls. You'll have to experiment. I hope you can manage to keep them all! Let us know if you need more guidance.

Google says its the process of removing or disposing of poultry, almost a nicer way of saying killing.

Yeah I think it doesn't necessarily mean "kill" but it's an option. Sounds like "kill" too so that doesn't help!

The duck in question is adorable, if i were closer I'd take him!
Here's his re-homing thread complete with adorable pictures. One is now my desktop!
