Hello
For the past 3-4 days i have been noticing a weird behaviour in my chicken. She has been sitting on the bed whole day and whenever I open the gate to see her or go near her she starts to fluff up or raise the feathers on her neck and she has been making really weird clucking noises which she doesnt usually. Her legs are also a bit weak and she hasnt laid for 4-5 days (she usually lays every alternate day). She hasnt been eating or drinking much as she did before. She has become really agressive too she doesnt let me touch her and pick her up.(She is around 1 yr and 2 months old and Im not sure of her breed)
Guys pls suggest me what to do cuz Im really worried.Do I hv to feed her somethin or not feed her somethin?
Thanks:)

Hey,
@Northwest_Wannabe

Thanks a lot for telling me that, She has laid about 50ish eggs, since the past 4 to 5 months but I have never seen her acting like this.

So if you have any other insights, I would really appreciate that, and also should I be worried as this seems unusual to me.

Thanks again :)

I agree. Sounds like she’s going broody. That means she wants to hatch eggs. You can either let her go through with it or take all the eggs and try to break the broodiness.

Hey @Oncoming Storm

Thanks for telling me that :)

But currently she does not have an egg under her, also she didn't lay one since shes gotten into the act , Do you recommend that I give her an egg from the market or her own egg?, as she doesn't give fertilized eggs as she's alone.

Thanks!

Hmm. I’m not sure. All my eggs are fertilized so I’ve never had this problem. I don’t think market eggs are fertile. Maybe give her a false egg? I’m not very experienced in breaking broodiness since I just let the girls do her thing. Perhaps if she goes in the motions and the egg doesn’t hatch she’ll break and go back to normal.

It does sound like she is broody, but you mention leg weakness. What condition is she in? Is she normally active/eats/drinks and moves around a lot?
How old is she?
Any external parasites?

She is a lone hen? Do you have room for more chickens if you were to give her hatching/fertilized eggs? If you don't have room for more/don't want more or if the hen is not in good physical condition to sit for 21 days, then I would break her broodiness.

If youre not going to give her eggs to hatch you should break her broodiness. Put her in a wire bottom cage for a few days or a week with no bedding. Give her food and water as normal.
