I have four pekin ducks. Two are confirmed male, one confirmed female, last one probably male. Is there any way I can keep all four without them hurting each other? I posted before and was told to get rid of two of the males, get rid of the female, or get twenty more females. None of the options are acceptable at this point. I got the ducks for eggs, but they were not sexed beforehand. I got them at TSC. What should I do?

Put two of the extra males in the freezer , they are real good eating . The males have a curled up feather in the middle of the tail and the females quack loud. the males whisper . If you don't get rid of the two extra males they will kill the female the will breed her to death!

Occasionally ducks can be fine in pairs (one boy one girl) but there’s really no way to tell until they are adults at which point there are already horrible effects if they WONT work well in pairs. The drakes can fight or overbreed the girls which can cause injuries either way.

Here’s your options:
  • Get rid of the boys
  • Get rid of the girls
  • Get rid of one boy and get more girls (I would recommend at least 4 more)
  • Get at least 9 more girls and make sure you give your ducks plenty of extra room (enough for the two flicks to be separate and have space to spread out, play, eat, swim, etc)

Forgot to add:
  • create two separate coops and runs, one for the girls and one for the boys. The boys should not be able to see or hear the girls or they may still fight

TBH it sounds like you were given (unfortunately) good advice the first time. Owning livestock comes with some difficult realities. Poultry has the reality that boys don't do well with each other when there's hens around.

I was so hoping I wouldn't have to do that but I know I will. Thank you!!

you don’t have to kill any of them!

here’s just some of the many options you have -
1. two coops! you can keep the three boys in one coop, and the girl (adopt her another female friend) in another. if the boys can see/hear the girls they will not fight.

2. rehome just the girl (it’s super easy to find loving homes for female ducks) and keep just the three boys. again, no girls means no fight.

3. rehome the three boys (if you look, you can find loving homes for drakes as well) and keep the girl and adopt her other female friend(s)

4. keep the girl, and just keep one boy. find loving homes for the other two boys, and adopt two more girls in their place.

5. keep the three boys outside, and let the girl be a house duck. let her have visits with the boys sometimes but supervised

Rehome and get fish, less stressful. :)
