If you can check him over without causing him too much stress, it would be good. Does it just look as if it's hurt or does it look like there is something seriously wrong, like a break?

Just make sure the chicks don't peck at him too much. Usually ducks can more than handle their own, but if he's hurt it could be a bad situation for him. Just watch and be prepared to act if needed. Kudos for doing this!

My three yr old daughter holds him and he just lays back and relaxes so I checked him over I didn't see any injury. This could be a stupid question but could it be cuz hes so little like a baby learning to walk? I feed him a little with a food vitamin mix with a syringe I didn't have to force it he just gobbled it up ( I wanted to be sure he was eating enough) I gave him a hiding spot the chicks can't get in just because he is a nervous little tike. But we are keeping a close eye on them. Does the fact that only my daughter can hold him that he imprinted on her? Thank you so much for everything. I will keep you updated I'm sure I will have more questions.

Are you adding the niacin to his water? This will help if there are any problems with his walking. Niacin is one of the B vitamins so I'd add that to the drinking water as well as the vitamins you are giving him. Where you have chicks in with him maybe 50mgs to 1 qt. of water. Chickens don't need as much as a duck or other water fowl but as I said, it's one of the Bs and is water soluable so shouldn't cause a problem for them at all. Just make sure you get the plain niacin, not the no flush or time released. they're pretty much useless as they are excreted long before the body can use them. WalMart has the plain niacin behind the counter. Just ask at the pharmacy.

Some kids just exude calm, lol. It's great that he's trusting her and able to relax when she holds him. The hiding spot is great, it would be more in keeping with his normal reactions and instincts. It sounds as if you've got it pretty much right. Watch and enjoy! Not many of us gets this kind of chance to see a 'wild' duck survive like this.

Please do keep it updated! I'm sure others will find this thread and have more ideas to help. You can always PM me as well. Good luck and enjoy the experience.

Baby is a lot stronger today could barely keep ahold of him today during his hand feeding:) walking better today and not spending all his time in hiding :) still a little clumsy especially when he's panicked but much better :)

Looks like my Mallard babies. Thanks for sharing! Looks like everyone is getting along as well, that's awesome. Some chicks will do fine, others....not so much.

Oh I need some pic to! So far we've been lucky everyone has done good together except our one incident with my baby girl (turkey) :) Hey is it normal for 11 or 12 week old turkeys to have their neck and head to go bald? Both my turkeys look like old bald men! it's a little silly looking lol. Baby duck is doing even better today haven't seen him trip over his feet at all today and he is more active and playing :) hasn't gone in his hiding spot at all he does hide behind the chicks though lol

Post some of the turkeys if you can. It may just be they are getting rid of winter warmth now that the weather is finally getting warmer. Pictures of what do you want?
