Ahhhhhhhhhhh, except for the soothing swooshing of the dishwasher, my house is quiet and peaceful

I need to decide what eggs I am going to put into the LG bator tonight. I have 5 speckled susex and 4 bantam cochins that go into lockdown wednesday so I guess I will go ahead and move them over. Hopefully that will give me enough room for 15 call eggs since I won't be able to candle the OE's or Marans that I put in Saturday until at least tomorrow. I really wish I have bought the rcom 50 bator instead of the rcom 20 but DH was like why would you want to have more than 20 eggs in there, lol

Ady, did you have to "assist" your butters?

Yes I did... They seemed a bit "too lazy" for me. Made me worry so I pipped for them. Then after several hours I made pip go more around and then after several more hrs I pulled a few heads out. Had one positoned funny too. Three came out on there own the other two I helped.

That's what I'm seeing, ady. I think I've got a lazy one that is going to require assistance. It just seems to me this year that it's taking them about an extra day to hatch(weird), but I'm not seeing ANY movement so I'm afraid it's in trouble.

I had 2 in my last batch that were malpositioned and I lost them bot because I went through the air cell and their yolks were exposed. Hopefully next time I will be able to tell better if one is malpositioned. How do you figure out where the bill is to pip the egg if they are malpositioned?

That's the hard part, justme. Lots of times, they have their head under their wing and you can't see anything. You throw a Hail Mary and hope for the best. Wish I had a more scientific answer for you. If you have a GREAT candler, you could MAYBE see that way-I just don't.

I can't see much of anything except a blob when they are ready to hatch. Maybe I can get hubby to bring me home his fancy flashlight from work to use? I doubt it, I get in trouble for using it, lol

Now that is just a foolish question, justme.

Sigh, hindsight is 20/20. I have managed to cram 50+ bantam eggs in there though.

I opened his pip up some to make sure he could get air. I'll work on him in the morning if he's not out.

I hope you guys get at least a butter outta these eggs east... They had me worried too. They are super tiny so I think they gave a rough time moving.

Those tactical police flashlights with a collar on them are supposed to work really well. There just aren't great candlers around. I need a better one, but don't like anything on the market any better than what I have.

That's a good indicator of a nice bird. So sad that the tiny little critters have such a hard time hatching on their own.
