Oh, they probably wouldn't show this on American TV, it's an Australian movie. It's about how they put maremma dogs (it's one dog in the movie, the star of the movie "Oddball", but in real life it's a couple of them) onto an island to protect the little penguins when they were all getting eaten by foxes and dogs. You might get it on DVD if you are interested. I've loved the maremmas ever since seeing the movie, I'd never really heard about them before.

From TEN back up to a couple of hundred.... They would have been completely wiped out if not for the dogs. EDIT(they also stopped tourists going out there as well, but it was mainly the hero dogs)

No, Newfoundland dogs are black or black and white.

Actually, the AKC breed standard says they are black, brown, gray or black & white. No solid white or buff. I thought they did have buff colored -- oops.

They are Maremma LGD.
LGD = Livestock Guardian Dogs
they came from Italy to the USA in 1975.
Not very well known yet, but are awesome dogs..

I love them! Actually tried to find one but ended up with a Pyrenees. Wish i had one now.

I sold one pup to a former GP owner.
she likes the Maremma better.
am working with a rancher now who had GP. doesn't like the way his tended to wander away from the flock..

Recaulked the skylight, used adhesive to add a board on each side.

bad news, my cement mixer won't go.
good news, it isn't the switch or reset.
bad news, might be the capacitor.
good news had the capacitor checked. it's OK
bad news, trouble has to be in the motor itself
good news, took the motor apart. armature was stuck a couple of light taps with the hammer and the armature loosed up.
good news, put everything back together.
it works ..
now all I have to do is put the motor back onto the frame and we are in the cement business..

the telephone guy was here. I think he fixed our computer problems.

and all this before noon..
