Sunny here today and we actually opened the windows in the car to cool it off a bit. Crocuses and snowdrops in bloom so far. The narcissus are up but not in bloom yet. The ground is too cold and wet to do anything with yet.
Many of the farmers in our area have already plowed their fields!

I, for one, would like to see spring just come..
took the starter to O'Reily's . they said they could not test that model.?????
they two guys waiting on me didn't seem to be too bright. when I suggested they just hook up jumper cables and see if the gear would spin, they looked at me as if I had just sprouted a second head.. One of the guys searched on the computer and then called a different store.. for what?? I don't know..

Maybe the other store had the clue they were missing!:lau

LOL, good one.. cappy
I went back to my mentor, (You Tube) and looked for something , anything, about a bench tester .. nothing. dozens of tutorials about bench testing, though.. they were all the same or at least similar..
today I am taking the battery to FF to get it tested..
hindsight is 20/20, but I am leaning toward just bad electrical connections.. a little late to think of that, now that the starter is out..
but the starter quit so suddenly , I didn't think about bad connectors..
Oh well, I will use this opportunity to clean and oil the bendix.. have a can of B-12 cleaner to test out..
our high today might get up to +5F. still
-9F right now.. -35F wind chill.. not in a huge hurry to go outside..
I checked with a tractor graveyard for a starter.. $425.oo plus shipping.. and it is not even a 12V. it is a 6V but it would work if you don't grind too long..

anywhere nearby that can rebuilt or sells rebuilt ones?

I had this one rebuilt at JT's shop. about 12 years ago.
He is retired and the shop is closed.
I know a guy who works at Motor Service.
I don't know if they rebuild starters, though.
we had a good place called West Side Battery that did rebuild, but they suddenly closed the doors, too.. I think their main problem was finding qualified help.. it was family owned for ever..

Everything is disposable now... numbers of folks who know how to fix stuff is diminishing.

One more cold night and then the temps are supposed to gradually rise to above freezing on Sunday.
I took the battery in to FF and it tested out very good.
Tomorrow I will do some cleaning of contacts and I am confident that I will have the starter working by this weekend..
DD found a guy who likes repairing tractors.
He said that if I have something I can't figure out that he would give me a hand..

do you ever wish that you could go back in time and try a different way to make money
I would repair lawn mowers and carburetors.
