2 nd year in a row, same turkey hen has been a bad mother. then she tried to take another hens poults..I am going to trade her off for tomatoes plants
This year she left her 4 two days old poults and went out partying. 40f ... found 2 crying by the unhatched eggs, one by the door crying and one in-between that I was sure was dead. I stuffed them all in my shirt while I set up and warmed up a dog cage brooder. About a half-hour I put them in the brooder, gave the almost dead one some nutidrench. He seems to be recovering... I will put him and his sibling with another hen tommorow.
texted someone on my list and bought the other 2
Heard an alert, got the closest gun (a 22 target pistol) and got a shot off at a coyote. It left slower than usual. Don't like to injure but things happen.
Found a possible dog. When Max was around seen a lot less coyotes.

Imho, females are less trouble. they do not have the urge to wander like the males do.
put off buying one for awhile.
when they are getting older the seller will come down in price..

Ha dogs are going quick this year. Shelters want 300 to 500 . Except for a guy in Indiana has AKC AS and wants 800 to 1000, hasn't been coming down on price. They are 4 months old now.

it was cold all day, I did some work in the shop without lighting a fire. only lasted about an hour.
3'' of snow for sunday morning. WTH ??

Snowed in northern lower Michigan yesterday...just cold here, down to 24°.
Thought for sure all 4 of the unheated waterers would be frozen this morning, only the open one had a partial skim coat. Already up to 40 again and sunny.

Really should switch tractor from throw to mow today, before rain tomorrow.
But am just not feeling it after a busy and tiring week.
Guess the grass will just get longer.<shrugs>

Wondering about my broody mama, those chicks carts(crops) are not full of groceries like I think they should be....and she keeps biting me as I mess with the feeder.

anybody else enjoying this long drawn out winter as much as I am ?
2 to 4'' of snow for tonight.
today I was going to assemble the four trusses. I got one finished. my glue kept turning to molasses. Next time I will light a fire in the stove and have a pan of warm water on it.
I have the green house pretty well designed. Not going to use sheet plastic.
going to go with corrugated clear panels.
also might make it easy to disassemble for winter storage.

Worked in the flower garden today. Also sold $100 worth of birds. Freezing here tonight, hope it stays at 33° myself.

We fed the perch in the pond with worms from the garden. I bet that at this point we could use a hook and line to catch them.

Oh Oh, someone is going to name their fish..
when we were kids, my dad had an old bathtub where he kept his minnows for fishing.
we would take the baby ducks and let them swim in the tub. we would catch frogs and put them in with the ducks. they loved eating them.
It would not be long before the ducks would notice the minnows. we enjoyed watching them dive under the water and chase down the minnows..Dad never said a thing about his minnows disappearing.
It did not snow here,,,yet. maybe they called it off ??

Decent here right now, but temps are going to be dropping. Was 50 an hour ago and 49f now. Supposed to be rain off and on today.
Sold the last of the turkey eggs yesterday and the same guy is going to pickup the last laying turkey today. 15 turkey hens left, 12 on eggs. Have the bad mother locked up to trade for tomato plants.

all the rest of the trusses are finished.
the temperature kept going down, but I stuck to it. hands got really cold. I kept the glue bottle in my pocket to keep it liquid.
