we have been scrounging for canning lids.
I told my daughters about two months ago to get lids. No movement on their part.
So, there is not a lid to be found in a 100 mile radius. However, I know of an Amish store about 25 miles away. I called them. Yes, they do have a few boxes left. However, limit 2 boxes of 12ct.
and only wide mouth. OK we have some wide mouths jars. So off we go this morning. Had to pass through a place called Little Chicago.
It is just a cross road on a county road.
There is a hole in the wall store there where they sell ho-made pastry and bread. I told GS to pull in. Went in and bought 3 donuts. Asked the girl if they by chance had any lids.
Yes, over there on the shelf. There were four boxes of wide mouth lids. I bought all of them. $2.99/box of 12.. No need to drive another 20 miles.
went home and called DD#1. told her that Fleet/Farm had only pint jars with lids on them. She went right to F/F and bought the last two 12 packs of pints. and one 12 pack of half pints. she said there are lots of half pints.
I'll bet those will be bought just for the lids before too long, too..
I think we have enough lids for about 100 quarts of tomatoes, now.. it might seem like a lot, but there are 3 households sharing them..

by the way the storms have been ripping through, maybe it is best to be missed sometimes.
I hold my breath every time they start talking about hail.
we haven't been hit by bad hail for many years.
the one time I can remember was before 1970, it killed three young geese. and the large zukini squash looked like it was shot with buckshot.

I got 2 out of three pieces of hardware cloth put on the playhouse coop today. I need to put one more piece of wood around the last window. And I put up the last piece of chicken wire I had in the goat pasture. Plus I started digging a drainage ditch in front of the duplex chicken coop. Piled rocks along the fence where I thought the goats might squeeze under. Did laundry, pulled some weeds.
I have chicks hatching out, going to set up another brooder tonight.

I am waiting,,, waiting for my rhubarb seeds to come. they have been delayed for 5 extra days because of the mail slow down.
waiting for my tractor starter fixit guy to call.
waiting for my nephew to pick up some tire patches so I can fix my lawn mower tire. the plug did not fix it. If the patch does not do it,
I will have to put a tube in it.
waiting for the driveway guy to call back. we need a load or two of highway mix to fill in the dips and holes in the driveway.
I have only until Sept 24 to get my projects done, That day I will be having my first hip replacement done.. if it goes well, six weeks later I will have the second one done..
Annie had her second one done two weeks ago.. She is doing great..
very soon we will be canning tomatoes.
we scrounged up about 100 canning lids.

went with Annie to PT. They wouldn't let me into the building this time. More stringent rules . So on Friday I am not riding along, just to sit outside and wait .
today was a beautiful day. I got very little accomplished .
I feel kind of guilty about that. I just can't seem to work up any ambition. I have too many projects started. I will have to make a list. Do just one project and ignore the rest. and keep doing that.

I wish you good luck with the surgery.

My Dad has his knees done about 10 years before he died and, with good PT, was tackling the more moderate PA state park walking trails within the year. A friend's husband had his hips done and got back to his hobby of working on cars -- getting down onto the crawler and back up without much trouble -- in a similar time span.

Modern medicine works miracles. :)
