what I am about to tell you is not complaining or looking for sympathy. Just stating a fact. I am in the worst physical shape than I have ever been in . EVER..
I suppose it is due to the muscle loss from not doing anything since September 2020.
two hips replaced etc.
Yesterday I unloaded 12 bales of straw off of the truck and stacked them four high.. I had to rest after each bale. It took me over an hour. at the end, I was completely wasted.. However, I did not ache and my back held up. but I totally hit the wall. I sure hope my stamina comes back some..
I still do not have the trees planted. Freezes every night. I heeled them in, in the wheelbarrow and put them into the garage..
One of the apple trees has just about zilch for hair roots. I don't think it will grow. Very disappointed with that seed company.

Very disappointed with that seed company.
Which company? Sorry if I missed it.

I've been reading a lot of "this seed/garden company used to be great, and now they're terrible" posts. I made one about Gurney's. I won't order from them again.

There are a few independent nurseries within driving distance from me. That's where I'll be getting my trees/shrubs/potted plants from now on. I have a few seed companies that I love, and that's where I'll be ordering my seeds.

I'm planting perennials and self-seeding plants where I can, and saving my own seed. In fact, my tomato seed had the best germination rate of any I planted.

@jvls1942 , I know what you mean about stamina. I do a LOT more resting breaks than ever before.

But we're still doing, and that is the important thing.

My dad had both knees done a few years before his death. IIRC, it took him a good 6 months to build back up but after he did he was able to do more than he'd done in years.

I have never ordered from this seed co without having one problem on another. This order was the worst. We ordered early, around Thianksgiving.
wanted to be sure to get in early enough to get what we wanted. had screw up with the packet seeds right off .. then they shorted me one cherry tree. then when I unwrapped the three trees that I did get, one of the apple trees has just about no hair roots. It is a thick trunk . about the thickness of a shovel handle.
some people I talked to say they have had no trouble with this company. which is often the case.. but I did.
Jung Nursery ..

Yeah I was sick during the winter and didn't do my exercises. I sure can tell I didn't. Takes me forever to get something done. Taking a hour break every 15 minutes

Call them and complain!
I know what you mean about stamina. I don't have much left either. My friend and I built the frame for a small grow out area at her place after the swap the other day. At 5 pm i quit, still had to dive 2 hours to get home.

Cappy, that is way more stamina than I have.
I have to sit for an hour just to work up the ambition to go wear out my stamina.
talking about falling. Every time I go to the Dr they ask me if I have fallen. I always say no. I would say no even if I did fall. Why do they want to know that ?
Then they ask me if I am mistreated at home. Hell yes,
I'm married ain't I ? :old :lau
I walked down to get the mail. checked the rhubarb and garlic. the garlic is about a foot tall with multiple stems.
the rhubarb is all up. I was surprised to see how many shoots the rhubarb is sending up. a couple of them have about a dozen shoots. they were planted just last fall..
My son told Annie that rhubarb is almost $5/pound in the store. Maybe I should set up a road side stand. I have about 30 planted.. and lo and behold, my old rhubarb patch has two plants coming up.
It hasn't has any for two years Where did that come from ? We mowed over that spot all last summer. there was nothing there.
I am going to cut some apple branches today. going to try sprouting some roots in water.

If possible, plywood floor with linoleum on it for easy cleaning. Deep Litter method works!!
Consider poop trays under your roosting bars. They work too!
As mentioned earlier, VENTILATION!!!!! More than you think.
You have mentioned ventilation twice, that we need more than you think. We bought one of those shed kits from lowes and built and 8x8 with 6' walls. We put in two 8"x16" air vents. The chickens will be out in a large yard during the day, but during the winter while there is snow on the ground I anticipate they won't want to come out that much. Do we have enough ventilation?
