Do onions do something similar?

Not sure, never grew onions...I would think probably so.
But grew garlic for about a decade,
learned from my brother who grows hundreds for several decades now.

Not really. Garlic are grown deeper than onions.
I have collect onions when all the leaves have turned brown. Storage and variety of onions makes the difference

thanks Aart, I did not know that.
this is just my second crop. I have no mentor. I only learn things after I do something wrong and somebody tells me then. I do not store for long. in the fall I will plant much of it.
give lots of it away.
I had one clump of grapes. it was almost ripe a week ago. today it is gone. birds? squirrels? deer? not me..
there was one plum on the new young tree. Annie was watching it ripen. It is gone. I saw a bluejay in the vacinity.

Wow, Cappy, or is it Heidi ? what are you feeding those goats ?
I had goats, but never even had triplets. mostly twins.
If I was starting all over, I would have goats and guineas.
today is my first half of my 6oth high school reunion. tomorrow we have the big meal. In the invitation they wrote,
"this is your last reunion"
hmmm, what do they know that I don't know ?? lolol
then sunday is my 8oth birthday
Monday I go in for an EKG . Only because it has been so long since I had one.
