Day one of the hoop coop build , i got the site pretty much cleared and decided i am going to put the long part of the coop facing uphill because the site is on a slant and that way the roof will drain down hill. The other way it would have looked lopsided. I pounded in 3 posts. They are a bit crooked, but the best i could do holding up the post and pounding it in myself. The hoop coop will be 200"× 8' due to the size of the cattle panels.
So i am excited to have started my coop. I got a late start as i slept in this morning, but i think i made good progress considering i only got a few hours in. I was also collecting dead wood and tending 2 fires. Husband wanted to burn another pile but i said i didn't feel it was cleared up around it enough to be safe so that will wait for another day.
Tomorrow i will go buy some pressure treated wood and call the mill to order some other lumber.

The area does not look very cleared out here, but there is plenty of space for the coop.

Tposts?
I use a regular post level with Tposts,
Shakes and shatters the bubbles, but still works way better than without.

Been meaning to ask, why does the guinea coop need to be so far away?

Me too, why in the woods ?
I wasn't going to question it, but as long as it has been brought up...

my guineas are always happy to go into the chicken coop with the chickens.

did I read the dimensions right ?
8 ft x 200 inches ?

good morning,
I have to go have blood drawn at the VA this morning. drinking black coffee so that there will be some color to my blood.

they should have been standing by yesterday.
I somehow poked a hole into the side of my hand and it bled profusely . I am on blood thinner..

My grandson told us that someone he works with , father fell off of a ladder and killed himself this week. No other details about it.

So, be careful .

I know it bothers a few people when I am up on a ladder or roof. but I still have enough fear to be careful.

I worked with a guy who was afraid of heights.
He came sliding past me on a roof one time.
I could see he wasn't going to stop.
I just yelled, Jump John, Jump..
it was only about 8 or 9 feet to the ground.
he did get his feet out in front of himself and did jump when he got to the edge of the roof.
landed on his feet and was not hurt at all.

Because the guineas could wake the dead with all their racket! Plus they keep landing on my truck. Not happy about that.

I did not work on the window trim today.
I figured I had better get some of the outside things done. I made the outside corners for the vinyl siding out of wood. I will paint them white later.

I took time to mow the weeds off of the potato row. now it will be easier to dig the rest of the potatoes.

guineas can't do their job if they are penned up.
in spring of 2016 I had 30 guineas.
in the spring of 2017 I had 6 left.
today I have 3 roosters..
I hardly know they are around. I think it is the hens that cause the noise.
yesterday the "lone hen" chicken jumped up onto my lap. quite unexpected.
then she stepped over to the next lawn chair and stayed there. I reached over and she let me pet her.. she doesn't lay eggs.. I think she is warming up to me so that I don't butcher her...
