good sat. eve.
I tried pitting the plum with the cherry pitter.
the stone is too big for the hole. it is a no-go..
so tonight I took 8 cups of plums with 1/2 cup of water. steamed them for 10 minutes. mashed them with a potato masher. then sent them through the tapered sieve with the wooden handle. it squeezed the pulp through the tiny holes and the skins and seeds stayed in the sieve.. worked like a charm. next time I am going to skip the masher.
8 cups of raw plums = 2 cups of pulp.
I can live with that..
Cappy, how many more coops are you going to build ?
I have 2 empty coops and 2 empty pens.
this morning I shampooed the living room carpet before breakfast ..as a reward, Annie took me out for breakfast..
we had good news yesterday. Annie doesn't need cataract surgery after all.. maybe in a year or so, though..

That is great! I really don't want anyone messing with my eyeballs.
As for coop building, idk. I am considering one for the young guineas but may just sell the other guineas and use the hoop coop. I really don't want many more birds, especially heading into winter. I might get some Bobwhites and other quails though once i sell some of these.

good noon,
I did a batch of plum jam this morning,
I learned a valuable lesson. read the directions carefully.. I cooked the mixture ten minutes after putting the pectin in. It was setting while I was cooking it. I thought that wasn't right.
so after putting the jam into the jar, yes, one pint jar, .. It was supposed to be at leas two pints.. I go back and read the instructions.
they said to cook for ONE minute,, not the TEN minutes that I did.. LOL
I used two cups of sugar. but after reducing the batch by half, all the sugar ended up in one pint jar.. I have a sweet tooth, but not THAT sweet.. LOL
my next batch will be different, I will extract the juice and use the 5 1/2 cups of juice. easier to follow that recipe..

I remember we made some jelly out of orange plums when I was little. That was some great jelly. They were on my aunt's property. I'll have to see if they remember what they were. Dang it, now you're gonna get me planting plum trees.

I got the frame of the chicken coop completed tonight after cutting back the tree stump with a chain saw. :woot

Well, you can't see much, it was nearly dark. Next to put the plywood up.:thumbsup

you could do worse..
planting plum trees is quite easy and most of them are hardy.
you could plant plum pits, but I wouldn't recommend it. the pits will grow a tree, but most likely it won't be the same kind as what the pit came out of.
You should plant at least two trees.

this morning I got up before 6. by 7 I had the plum jelly in jars and sealed.
4 and 1/2 pints
it seems to be jelling ok. it tastes very good.
I put only 2 cups of sugar into 8 cups of juice..
It is sort of sweet/sour ..
yesterday a nice guy from Minn came and bought Zeke.. He has 50 ewes and right now lots of lambs..
We were worried how Zeke would warm up to the guy. not a problem.. they took to each other right away..
going to get a set of tires on Annie's car in a few minutes.. cha ching $$$
we had a heck of a storm go through here last night. no damage here, but just 10 miles north of us, trees were broken off and 4 inches of rain.

We're getting that sucker this morning....more than an inch an hour and spine shaking lightning and thunder at the forefront...it's still pouring an hour later, garage is flooded(attached to house but thankfully a foot lower than house) and so is chicken run, tho I think dust bath/shelter area under coop is still pretty dry, glad I hadn't let them out yet. Was going to go early and get feed before temps rose to 90 again, best laid plans and all.

Glad you got a good place for your pup....
My van needs new tires too, and a lot of other things, so I think I'll buy a new vehicle instead :p

now that nobody smokes any more, it is hard to tell when to replace your car.
we used to say, when the ash tray gets full it's time to trade 'er in..
Annie's tires are complements from Zeke..
