if you paint it with Kils, it might take care of the mold..
I saw somewhere that if you wash it with baking soda & water..
I think bleach might kill the mold ??
just put it into a spray bottle and spritz it.

winter is settling in here. light snow today and the next ten days are going to be below freezing for high temps.
that should push the frost down with no snow cover..
the apple tree still has not dropped it's leaves.. all the rest of the trees around here are bare..

here up nort, the garlic planting time has passed by a couple of weeks ago.
we did the hose winding and storing last week.
put away everything outside and it is all cleared for snow removal.. had a few light flakes this morning..nothing on the ground.

I planted a small patch of garlic a long time ago.
somewhere behind the garage.
then I forgot about it. I planted it at the wrong time of year, and now the raspberries have grown over that spot.. I doubt if the garlic is still there.. there is/was some asparagus back there, too.
out front I had some horse radish. it got mowed off when I salvaged the grapes this summer. but it is hardy stuff and might come back.. I will watch for it next spring.
In the mean time I still have a half of a quart of store bought horseradish in the fridge.

Got that garlic in this afternoon...only 30 cloves, but still.
Soil was pretty nice, drains well I guess. Got some rabbit poop for fertilizer, double dug it in then planted, will mulch tomorrow with the straw I got today.
Have planted close to 200 at one time, but had to cut back to rotate where they grow in my limited garden space. This is my 16th year. I don't care to eat much garlic but I love to grow it, it's easy and no real pests. I grow a hard neck variety called German White, seed I got from my brother who usually plants 500, he's like the Garlic King of Hudson Valley, but only did 300 this year due to knee surgery.
I used to sell quite a bit at $10/lb but planting this year was more about sentimentality and 'carrying on'...now I'll have to stick around to harvest next July.
