Art,
I sent an unsubscribe to HT. those people are too militant for my taste. clique too.
If I need to get agitated, all I have to do is talk to my sister in law for awhile. LOL
Yeah, there's a lot of AgiYakking over there...I just stay way from those threads.

Got two loads of chips today, one on a tarp for later and one disrubted in runs....my butt is draggin. Spooky pullet got out of run, luckily it was pretty easy to catch her....she followed the fence all way to behind the tarp.

It is always mystifying why a chicken feels the need to get out of a fence. they never know what to do when they do get out, and half their time of freedom is spent trying to get back in.
DD and her friend have filled 275 five gallon pails and have a plant in each one.
still a big pile of soil left and a long ways to go.
Art, don't kill yourself moving those chips..

It was pure circumstance, they were freaking out and flying up against the run wall.
That end of the run has an small opening up at the top and she just slipped thru it.
Mesh goes to red line, then about 8" to rafter peak.
I've never worried about it for day time predators and no bird has ever gone thru it before.

Here they are at the bottom of that wall, their usually afternoon hangout.
Escapee is the darker pullet. Only 2 pullets out of that broody batch, have been worried something is/was going to happen to 1 of them, the 5 boys will be gone on another month or so.

When you put linoleum on a coop floor, do you run it up the side a little or just cover the floor exactly?
I just cover the floor and put trim boards all the way around.

And man I sure paid for those. Just like last time. Slow learner.

Best fill that gap. Coons or possums may get in.

Eh, I'm not too concerned about it, or I would have closed it long ago. Not often coons and possum hunt during the day and I'm almost always here within sight/hearing of run. Coop is a Fort Knox Envelope of HC and locked pop doors. If it ever does happen tho, I'll be sure to let you know so you can say "I told you so"

It's been there for 5 years, never had anything get in or out of it until yesterday, which was pure freaky circumstance.....pullet freaking out as I brought in batches of shavings and chips, flew up along that wall and popped out the gap. I felt bad for her, she was not happy to be grabbed from under that tarp, and worried as she is one of only two pullets. I think she's OK, but haven't fully checked her out for wounds, she hasn't been handled much at all and I didn't want to stress her more last night. Tonite I will give her a full exam. there's some sharp wire ends up around that gap.

bit the bullet and went after the weeds in the tomato patch. Annie sat in a lawn chair and pulled weeds next to the plants. too.
then I mowed up and back along the row.
there are 8 plants. the weeds were taller than the plants. lots of winter rye ..
as long as I was at it, I mowed the whole garden. that winter rye sure makes nice chopped straw.
found one ripe tomato. about the size of a golf ball. we shared it. was really sweet.
I am going back out there with the rototiller in a little while. and a handful of stakes.
late in the afternoon I will water them and give them each a shot of fish emulsion.

Good to hear about the sales, sorry about the migraine.:hugs
Today I went to Lynchburg and bought a kids play house to use as a banty coop.
I did get the flooring down in the rehab coop yesterday, and half the hardware cloth is up. I wish I had energy to do something tonight!
