Helpful hints for building coops

Looks like the village finally dropped of the wood chips they promised several months ago...Squeeee!!!
Was just wishing this morning that I had some more before the real snow starts.
Too bad I can't use the large garden cart(unless I want to remove the snow thrower counter weights that are mounted on the hitch-and I don't really), ohwell, wheel barrow will work!
Long walk(~300') with small loads, kills my foot and knee...but still, good to have on hand.
One load, at left, is 'fresher'....one on right looks older and lots of 'dirt' in it.
I drove by the 'village yard' and it looks like someone dumped a bunch more chips there, might have been what spurred them to finally get rid of some of it.
I stopped in to thank them but the admin didn't know what or when.

Went shopping today, also picked up a free live Xmas tree with a stand. Shopping again tomorrow, in a different city.

I got a new hyd hose and filled the hyd reservoir with oil. On Tuesday I put the back blade on and really did a good job of plowing.
about 2 hours spent outside. 31F..
visited Annie and got a list of to-do from her.

Yup, a few wheelbarrows at a time, until snow makes it impossible.
Even then may utilize a plastic sled and some buckets.....we shall see.

good morning,
last night I had a sudden craving for home made bread. It was 10pm so I decided to wait until this morning to make it.
I am not going to make cinnamon rolls until all the pies are gone. they are frozen pies, so they will keep.. chocolate, lemon and pumpkin..
Aart, you will have some nice weather for a few days for hauling chips. then the bottom is going to drop out..
we have not hit below zero yet, but they are promising us plenty for next week.
If it has to snow, I wish it would be today instead of next week when it will be very cold for plowing.. the highs will be in the teens ..

I see that...feels pretty cold out there this morning, but look, the SUN!!

It's been in the 30's and gray but got almost enough chips moved that I needed.
Will do a few more barrows full, then done.

I have a concrete floor in my coops.
for winter I put down 6 to 8 inches of chips.
good insulation from the concrete. and it also is good for drainage. I put a bale of straw on top of the chips. then a couple of times during the winter, I spread a little more straw just go keep my feet clean..

by noon I was eating warm home made bread
by supper time there was half of a loaf gone.
for supper I had one of my favorite meals.
Home made bread, real butter and fried eggs
Tomorrow it will be with pork and beans with a little maple syrup in the beans..
