Helpful hints for building coops

I used lard, a whole lot of it too. A pound of pintos, onions, serranos, a little chipotle powder, and half a cup of lard. They are delicious. Freezing burritos might be a dream, I think these will all get eaten.

Lard is pork fat, correct?

Yup but it has no flavor of it's own, so while you can use bacon fat (and I hear a lot of people do) it adds it's own flavor and I wanted to try this way. Plus my hoard of bacon fat is tiny. How did yours turn out?

Ah, that makes sense.
Tho this bacon was not smoked or anything,
and the fat was removed before cooking the bacon and rendered separately,
I imagine leaf fat and belly fat could impart a different flavor.

Ended up blowing off the refry.....on the 'schedule' for tomorrow.

Today was bean day, we had the refries for lunch and soon we'll have blackeyed peas with greens and rice for dinner.

Oregon beat Bucky at the rose bowl.
It was a good game,. Oregon earned it..
I made a kettle of chili and Annie made corn muffins. I used V8 for added liquid instead of water.
I do not like refried beans. when I order a chimichanga, I specify, No beans even anywhere in the same room..
don't short yourself on coop size.
keep in mind that someday you might not want chickens anymore, and then you can use the coop for a planting shed or storage.

Well and i keep thinking I might get a few meat chicks and start them with the layers then move them to a grow out pen later.

I took the garbage to the road.
as long as Ollie was running, I pushed a couple of snow banks farther back.

Finally....after a month...an egg!!

...and have you ever seen a frog in the snow?
I haven't, until today.

weird frogs this year... the park district had a video of frogs jumping around a frozen pond a few days ago.
