with many screws, shear strength is a factor, but there are construction screws that are more than adequate for framing.
common nails do have fantastic shear strength.. some screws do not because they are not soft like nails. therefore they break instead of bending a little with the shear force.

do not use drywall screws for framing. they are too brittle..
and they rust away..

two fans? only two? you and who else ?
today I did some measuring and figuring for the "eye brow" roof I want to put above my garage door.
Materials should come to just under $200.oo.
I am thinking a 24" rise over 48" run.
that should make it a 6/12 pitch if I figured right..
I am going to hang it off the building, no support posts.
First I am going to run my ideas past my nephew. He is an architect .

I have until May 7 to get this finished.

I was witching for buried telephone lines on my property. couldn't find them because of the overhead electrical drop from the road to my house..
I use two pieces of clothes hangers bent into an "L" . hold the short end very loosely so that it can swing easily. point the long ends straight out in front of you. when you cross the buried lines, the "L" will swing to the sides.
I didn't know you could find all those things you listed..
I hope I find my drain line and not find an ancient grave . LOL
