My rooster, Marion, was a Light Brahma. He was 2 feet tall and a gentle giant, though hard on the feathers of the non-Brahma hens. I loved my Dark Brahma girls, Noodle and Kiev. Noodle was my friendliest hen until she went broody -- at which point she, being a very GOOD mama, turning into a biting monster.

She's the one who managed to hide an egg from me long enough to hatch a chick. :)
 
the coop is coming along nicely.
Metal roof?
Make sure the top plates are square. It makes putting the roof on a lot easier. but you know this, I guess.

I have the pipe leak under control.. not fixed, just under control. the final fix will have to wait until I tend to the outside plants.
you had better get a taller piece of plywood across the door. it won't be long before they will be perching on that one.
I had a two foot piece across my door. when they started perching on it, I removed it and let them go outside..

Today I will be putting a small fence of hardware cloth around the access door area to contain chicks that jump out. The idea is to slow them down with enough obstacles to be able to catch them and put them back. :D

The electric net fence kit has been ordered, though I don't think that the kind we got is chick-tight so I'm not sure what to do about that yet.

It's intended to be mobile -- we have several areas of bad grass and thick pine straw that we want worked over for fertilization and bug control over the next several months. I'll have to play it by ear as the chicks grow.

The shock or not premier 1 is somewhat chick proof. It has plastic netting attached by hog rings on the bottom, maybe 18inch ... 2 ft would be better...3/4 inch squares.
Some figure out they can jump up past it.

You could get some plastic heavy netting/fence and attached it so the chicks can't get in between it and the electric net...zip ties would work... I have found toads trying to get in the poultry yard in-between the electric and plastic dead :hit .... the stupid toads also get in the weasel boxes and get caught.
