Helpful hints for building coops

probably a raft for the birds to ride on..
this morning we made a 40 mile each way trip to Medford .. Met a guy there and bought nine cases of wine bottles. We were home before noon..
I have enough bottles for my current three batches of wine, and enough to cover one more batch if I should make some more.
Right now I am not planning any more.. but I was not planning these three batches either, so one never knows..
I opened a bottle of rhubarb from 2002.
It needed sweetening, It is very good..
only got up to about 19F today. that should make more ice for the ice fishermen. There were some on the ice yesterday..
I hope you southern ish people are enjoying your warm days.. I think ours are done until spring.. still no snow.. yay !!

Yeah, after today it's going to be cold. Hoping it's not below freezing for long. Still so much to do here.

cold here. we hit O for a night time low. the daytime high was about 14F.
yesterday I completed my pre op appointments. all set for Jan 14.
Yesterday I racked the last jug of wine. Now we wait.. I don't think it will be ready in just one week. It is fermenting nicely, but it looks slow to me.. I think I will give it until Jan 1.

good cold evening,
today I took a pail of old wine and tweaked it
It was sooo dry. I added some simple syrup to
fix that. Annie thought it didn't have enough flavor. She suggested adding blackberry jelly to it. I added four pints of jelly. that gave it a nicer flavor. I ran the jelly through the blender with a little cold water.. there are some tiny pieces of jelly floating around in the wine. I will strain them out when I bottle the wine. Now I have to wash some bottles.

I figured If you can make wine from jelly, it would be worth a try to just add jelly.
It also gave it a nice tint..
You can make jelly out of wine. but WHY ?

This winter weather is no fun, but we knew it was coming. Sunny today but still chilly. One of the goats is not well, so I separated her and put her in a dog crate with a heat source. She's one of the little ones and the big ones shove her out of the way. I think she's low on B vitamins, so I have injected her with some . Hoping that will stimulate her appetite.

well, the acid water we have ate another pin hole in one of the copper pipes. The plumber can't get here until next week. We mutually decided to take that 30 foot line out and replace it with PEC. I already have a 100 ft
roll of it and the connectors, too. I turned the pump off. We have some pipe tape to wrap around the pipe. It will either stop the leak or at least slow it down for now.
we will have to rip a row of ceiling tiles out all across the basement. about 30 feet of them...
the fun never stops around here..

We rented a house in Mass when the kids were little where the acid water had eaten all the copper pipe down to foil. Fix one leak and another started.

Our arrangement with the landlord was to do our own repairs and deduct it from the rent. With the landlord's agreement we replaced the entire water system with PVC.

that was a good rental agreement.
the leak turned out to be in a 1/2" pipe off of the 3/4" main run to the ice maker line.
some plumbers fix it tape is holding the water back. but we might just go ahead and replace
the main line anyhow.
