I had requested that the rain hold off until midnight, but it's pelting down so hard now that the tv went off.
I got the last of the welded wire on the end of the new run, put a handle on the door and a hasp. Also finished putting up chicken wire on one side of the barnyard. Ran out of zip ties , so I need to get more.
I have started building a nest box for a friend of mine that likely has more chickens than I do, but doesn't have a single nest box. Her chicken math is out of control. I have been teaching her to use tools and she is coming along. Loves my compressor and pneumatic stapler for attaching hardware cloth. I took it with me on the last visit I made to her place. To make matters worse, she is always low on funds so we are using as much recycled materials as we can.
I remember having satellite TV and it going out during storms. Now we have no TV but the cell-based internet lags if the storm is heavy enough.
I just got soaked because I was sitting out in the chicken run, reading and observing the see-don't-touch process while waiting for dusk so I could shut everyone up.
I heard the rain coming and had just enough time to shoe the babies into their coop. As I tried to get the Splits into theirs it fell like a faucet. I retreated under the picnic fly over the Little Monitor Coop, but after a bad hailstorm a couple months ago it's not very waterproof.
My son came out with an umbrella to rescue me. My other son will be sent out in a raincoat to shut everyone up safely.
If it had held of 15-20 more minutes they'd have all cooped themselves up, I think.
