Helping Chickens lay in Winter

Does anyone have any tips for helping chickens lay in winter? I've always been stumped by it and not sure what to do. All I know is to make sure they always have fresh water, food, and a clean coop.

Yes, and I don't really trust them not catching fire. I'm a worried mama!

I let them take their natural break. If you want, Orpingtons and a few others are known for being consistent winter layers.

Would more shaving help with that or should I just put a radiant heater in there?

I have Orpingtons but they are nearing 4 years old and not laying very much anymore. I couldn't fathom getting rid of them for new ones though!

No, I don't think its insulated and it's made of cedar wood with metal siding.

If you can rig up heating, it might be a good thing to do. Is this your first winter with that coop? Maybe just try extra shavings first....
