UPDATE: is has sadly passed away, I could see it prob had done that at day 19 or 20😞

Never place a hatching egg in water unless you want to make sure you kill it.
Huh? I routinely check a day before hatch by floating the egg in body temp water to look for movement. As long as the shell has no pips/cracks even experts that breed rare species routinely use that method close to the hatch date and say it is safe (if common sense is used -- it does NOT work early in the incubation since the embryo is far too small to jiggle the egg).

The egg floats (or should float) and it is only in the water for a few seconds. If folks are afraid to use water putting it in a bowl and watching carefully for a "jiggle" can also work.
