The instructions on the back of this package is completely confusing.............1st it says Prepare fresh solutions at least once a day. ok, I get that. THEN it says (for recommended dosage level) for chickens 400-800mg per gallon per day. BUT THEN it says further down "Not for use in turkeys or chickens producing eggs for human consumption" WHHHAAAT??? Then WHY do they have all these "recommended dosages FOR turkeys AND chickens>?>> UGH I don't know why they can't just make it simple!! How in the world do I add 400-800MG of POWDER to something? I though "MG" was a measurement for LIQUID!!

The gram is actually the unit by which mass (how much matter an object has) is measured. It's not a measure of weight or volume. Confused? All you need to know is the conversion rate. Google "milligrams to pounds" or "milligrams to ounces" and you'll get a conversion.

Welcome to BYC. What is the name of the product you're using? You can use the BYC search box and type what you're looking for and most likely find the dosage, for example; type "duramycin dosage." BTW: Duramycin 10 dosage is 1 tablespoon per gallon of water for 7-14 days for the 400-800mg dosage.

Knowing the product will also help answer your question regarding the issue of not being for production birds. Not all birds are kept for production of eggs for human consumption. Some drugs can pass through into the eggs and have a negative effect for anything that ingests that egg and, thereby, the medication. Without knowing what the specific drug is that you are using it's not really possible to address whether this is a matter of never being consumable or simply a matter of there being a withdrawl period. Something to tuck away in your mind for hte future is that ANY time you dose your birds you want to familiarize yourself with whether there is such a withdrawl period and then be sure to refrain from eating the eggs or processing the bird for meat within that period.
