HELPPPPPPPPP!!!! my hen might have a blocked wind pipe?

Thats the only suggetion that i can help with sorry its not working, its always helped me, i really hope she will be ok.if you are massaging from the bottom of the neck upward to the top when holding her upside downward then you are doing it correctly, if you are holding her normally massage going downward yo help if she has something stuck in her throught, another thing that can do that to chicks is cigerett butts the filter, if they swallow it , it will expand in there thruoght. I hope she will be ok, Good luck. :|
Oh yay, you can also try a drop of veggee oil or olive oil down her throught then massage in through. :|

So sorry your hen is having trouble. My own Ameraucana hen (15 months old) had the same problem about a month ago ~ I came home from work to find that whistling sound. Checked her throat, no lesions, no blockages to be found.

Is there any discharge from her nose or mouth? (None, in the case of my hen - totally dry)

Gapeworm is another possibility ~ is she tossing her head around, or looking like she is trying to expel something? (also not the case with my hen ~ we did a post-mortem to be sure we had not missed this)

For us, we could find nothing, nothing else wrong with her except that over the course of three days her windpipe closed up. It could very well have been an injury, as my girl often flapped and flitted around. A chicken's trachea (and their esophagus) is very, very narrow, and any blockage or swelling can cause serious problems. If you have already tried feeding her oil of some kind (we did olive oil-soaked tiny bread pieces) to reduce the possibility of blockage of some sort, there may not be much more to do but wait.

*** DO watch for cyanosis: if her comb/wattles begin to turn bluish-purple, and she seems in respiratory distress, you may wish to act quickly to end her suffering. Slow suffocation is a terrible way to go, and in the end, we helped my friend exit quickly.

I sincerely hope you find a different resolution to your problem. Our post-mortem also showed my girl's trachea severely swollen shut - almost like asthma. Don't know if this info helps, but I hope it has some value.

Please keep us posted, and good luck.

theres no discharge or "gurgling" sounds. also shes not coughing or tossing her head around.
but i think putting mineral oil or veggie oil down her trachea will drown her, i know chickens dont have an epiglottis like mammals do but they do have a type of "valve" that goes over their bronchi...the object is prolly there.
i also doubt its cyanosis bec her comb and wattles are still nice and dark red.

shes still alive and isolating herself from the flock

I would not force any liquid down a chicken's throat; if she does not willingly eat olive-oil soaked bread there is indeed a reasonable risk of aspiration.

Do you have a place to keep her where she is isolated?
