Hen’s Alerting

Thought I might ask here, I have 8 hen mixed breeds. Some are sliver laced Wyandotte when ever one of the other hens go to lay a egg in any of the nesting boxes the SLW will stand outside and start alerting which triggers the other SLW to alert. It can become very noisy when all four of them are at it .

Any ideas why they are doing this? Only the SLW display this behaviour and they are not at the top of the pecking order either.

It sounds like you're dealing with the "egg song",as some like to say. They pretty muchly just do this when they are or one of them is laying an egg.

Normal. Some birds are noisier than others, and some pick up on what others are doing more readily.

Ha! The loud group egg announcement. We get that too but all my chickens will do it at one time or another. It used to just be the barred rocks who liked to share.

Some of my old hens used to do it, but now I never hear any of them make a peep!
