Hen badly injured

We definitely let her go out to the yard as much as possible.
She just gets herself so dirty. Lol

How is rebel now? I have a hen pretty much healed from hawk attack to neck; had benefit of antibiotics and hibiclens washes and no going til scabs gone, doctors orders. Didn't read your whole thread yet. Hope she's well. They do love their dust bsthes!

Today’s update:

Heddy ripped off Rebel’s scar.
It’s looks like new skin underneath though
Now what do I put on it?
Antibiotic ointment still? Or AD ointment to keep it protected?
Or just let it air heal?

Is Heddy the other chicken?
If so, she might continue to pick at it and that is not good. That skin is very fragile to injury and the sun.

Some ointment is fine, but be aware if she's outside a fair bit now, or a lot, ointments will act like suntanning oil and increase the chances the new skin could sunburn. Maybe a good moisturizing sunblock would be good. Something gentle, fragrance free, and meant for delicate baby skin. Or something meant for animals that will block the sun. I know there are sunblock sticks for horses, but they usually have fly control in them too, which is a little too harsh for Rebel's skin.
You may need to look around and hopefully someone can chime in and answer if Zink Oxide ointment (old fashioned white diaper rash cream) is ok for chickens. I know it blocks the sun well.

I've used plenty of sunblock on my animals before, though not a chicken. My horse has a large blaze down his face and nose and needs sunblock every summer and I've used it on other animals after shearing or if they were healing from something and the new skin didn't have any protective hair/wool yet.

She's looking good with her bald self. I'll have to show the pictures to my half naked neck Roo to remind him he's not the only one sporting a cool featherdo.

I would use either one, but since it looks moist, the antibiotic ointment might be better for a day or two. A&D ointment is very good, and most dermatologists love it for healing wounds. She probably needs to be separated in a wire dog crate with food and water where she can see but not be hurt until she ehals more.

Yes doctor said injured hen to be separate from others and not in dusty hen house until tissue is completely sealed over and scabs fall off naturally. In addition was instructed to do Hibiclens (chlorhexidine) warm water washes to wound 2 times daily. This was with pain meds and oral antibiotics. With so much skin gone, there is nothing keeping microbes out, especially from other chickens germ laden beaks! Must say that approach worked on my Handsome! Can you bring your girl in for awhile?

My Rebel stays in the garage at night til she’s better and I take her out during shady times around 4pm. Myself or my daughter would be outside with her but today I chanced it and took everyone out.
Trained the puppies alittle more to leave the chickens alone which they did really good at.
Her and Heddy were out eating and scratching, they did really well but somehow her scab was ripped off. It must’ve been Heddy but regardless I cleaned her up and put antibiotic ointment.
I do also have a 4 year old so if I can put baby sunblock on it, I will.

I would probably use the triple antibiotic ointment for a while.
A+D ointment is good keeping the skin moist and that's something I would use later on when she's more healed. That area is going to get really itchy if it dries out before she heals.

That almost looks like frostbite.
