Hen carries chick under wing up to roost!

Did I not write that chick is just two weeks old and she's been carrying him up there for almost a week???

YES, the hen is CARRYING the chick to the roost.

But, you could be right...little chick could have been bit by a spider and now he has Spider Chick powers and he can jump several feet into the air and get on the roost himself.

:D

.....hmmm. I wonder if I could hook my video camera up in the coop or if it would be too dark.

I going to try.

Check settings on camera; many have a night shot mode that does not interfere with birds activities. Also make certain tripod stabilized so birds do not knock it over.

I've had game hens carry chicks who sit on their backs. During the trip, one or two chicks will slide under the wing and mom keeps on trucking through what ever terrain-over logs under branches. However, if she loses one, it better catch up cause she ain't waiting on a weakling.

Well....I filmed the roosting.

...and it REALLY hurts my pride to say, I was wrong!

While it is pretty amazing to see the way the chick manages to get onto the roost, mama does not carry him. The chick navigates across the fenced bottom of the roost, jumps onto the support board that is about halfway up the wall, then jumps onto the roost and cuddles next to mama.

centrarchid, I bow my head in defeat to your masterful use of common sense! :( ...and I hate doing it.

Not common sense, to me that phrase is sort of insulting as it indicates no learning involved. Simply an opinion based on personal observations of my birds over many years. It is entirely conceivable that your birds owing genetics or their environment do something differently. It could also be that you are much more on your toes with observing birds that will enable you to observe something others have not.
