My 3 year old hen has grown spurs! Is there a hormone imbalance involved or is this a freak of nature?

Some hens do have spur bumps normally. How old is she? What breed? Do you have any roosters? (Sometimes the absence of a rooster causes a hen to develop rooster-like characteristics.) But yes, sometimes the latent ovary causes them to have hormonal issues.

Of course, there's always the question: Are you absolutely sure she's a she? (Trust me, if I didn't ask it, someone else would. We don't think you're dumb, but even experts make mistakes sometimes!)

Well, she's been laying eggs for 3 years. She's now laying very large, sometimes bumpy eggs with blood spots inside. These spurs are now about an inch long. Anything I could give her for hormonal problems?
